I was working till 4 so didn’t get to Manchester in time to do sit in on the YM@6 interview (), but made it in time our chat with the We The Kings front man Travis (), you can find both in the interviews section. That said, disapointingly I missed most of Forever The Sickest Kids set through being stuck in possibly the longest and most annoying queue in history of Britain! What I will say though, for first act on the card, they conducted the crowd like seasoned pros.

On to We The Kings, wow! Endearing themselves to te crowd instantly when lead guitarist Hunter enters stage sporting a Manchester city shirt, instant rapport. They started with “She Takes Me High” a song I didn’t recognise and “stay Young”, before really cranking it up a notch with an excellant cover of jimmy eat world’s ‘the middle’!

Back to their own music and onto a brilliant “Secret Valentine”, followed by their latest single in “Heaven Can Wait”, all rounded off with the crowd favourite “Check Yes Juliet” taken from the bands 2007 self-titled debut album. A fast paced brilliantly put together set, performed with an energy that puts this 23 year old to shame! A brilliant set!

If you ask me You Me At Six justified tonights sell out crowd. Impressive considering its the largest gig they’ve headlined with a solid performace from start to finish, their set started with 3 songs including ‘the thruth is a terrible thing’ and ‘kiss and tell’ before they transformed the stage and brought new life to the set. The boys played a further 7 songs, the highlight of which would be a toss up between ‘if I where in your shoes’, ‘finders keepers’ and ‘fireworks’.

The third part of their set, and what turned out to be the encore comprised of an amazing and intimate version of the anthemic ‘always attract’, followed up by the bands first ever single ‘save it for the bedroom’ and the evening brilliantly rounded off with ‘underdog’ taken from the latest record “hold me down” which dropped in January of this year on Virgin Records.
It seems in selling out places like the 3,400 capacity Manchester Apollo YM@6 have found their level, they’re sound doesn’t carry well enough for the arenas (yet? Maybe?) and yet their music isn’t intimate enough for places like the Manchesters acadamies and pubs they’ve previously played.

All in all a great nights entertainment by 3 enthusiastic young bands who all seem to be on the up. Could one of them be a real success story of 2010? I wouldn’t bet against it if tonight was anything to go by. Watch this space.
