AFI – Medicate

I’ve not had the chance to listen to AFI’s forthcoming album, but ‘Medicate’ suggests we’re in for more of the same from singer Davey Havok and his boys.
Last album, ‘decemberunderground’, took a step away from the goth-punk of the brilliant Sing the Sorrow, and new single ‘Medicate’ takes a step even further. Distinctly poppy in tone, with clean vocals and ‘safe’ riffs, it doesn’t really contain any of the elements I’d typically look for from AFI. It’s just all a bit slow, and lacks in any real urgency or energy.
On the strength of this song alone, I’m less enthusiastic for the full album, but we will let you know our thoughts as soon as we’ve heard it.
