The job of warming up the crowd this evening went first to Young Guns. They possessed alot of energy and tried numerous times to get the crowd jumping and clapping along, but the songs were not good enough to get the crowd really going except for a few enthusiastic gig-goers at the front. Only “Way Of The World” stood out as a track anyone would remember from the evening and is one Im sure many looked up when they got home. The others songs on the set sounded too samey, but for a starting band they did well and looked confident on stage which should help them out in the future.

Next up where Twin Atlantic the next band to be making big noises from the infamous Glasgow music scene. I’ve heard allot of good vibes about TA and they have supported some very good live bands, and tonight would be a further warm up for their upcoming headline tour. Onto the set itself and from my first impression of the band they do have a unique sound which is mostly due to Barry McKenna’s guitar work which really stood out this evening. Mr McKenna’s skills where further showcased when he took out a cello and shown another side to TA, a side that could make them stand out from a million other bands who all seek our attention. Judging by this set they have all the tools to make it big in the coming years.

So after being promptly warmed up by the support it was time for the main course to come out and get us all, well sweaty. Tonight looked set to be a rough night for TBS due to the injuries of Matthew Fazzi (broken foot) and Eddie Reyes (broken ribs). A lot of bands would of just rescheduled and I was surprised to see both these men march on stage like nothing was wrong with them. Another thing I noticed immediately was the appearance of a third guitarist on stage, not sure why he was there as I personally didn’t hear three guitars in their latest release, but I could be wrong. Tonight was a good mix of songs from there four album releases, you couldn’t really argue with the set list as virtually every TBS fan favourite was on show mixed in with a fair few off the new release “New Again”, although “Cute Without The ‘E’ ” and “MakeDamnSure” still get the best response from the crowd.

Tonight felt like a solid show more than an impressive show, This could be attributed to a few small reasons. Certainly one of these reasons could of been the injuries to band members. Another problem I had with the show tonight was the choice of songs from the new album, the best songs from their latest album were not played tonight and I don’t think “Lonely Lonely” and “Summer, Man” are the best way to showcase the new album, but hey that’s just me. One major positive from the evening would be Matthew Fazzi. TBS have found an very suitable replacement to Fred Mascherino that does make the band feel at least, new again.
