I Am Hope – Self Titled EP

It’s been a while since a truly great band came charging out of Wales. There was a time when the emo/rock scene was dominated by them; Funeral For A Friend, Lostprophets, Midasuno, A2M and the like, but in recent years, though most of those mentioned there are still making music, not much exciting has happened.
But here we have I Am Hope, a band actually worth getting excited about. Track 1 on this 5 track mini-album, ‘The Ones We Love’ is reason alone – a confident, emotive (without being too ‘emo’) belter of a tune, that easily has a place in clubs up and down the UK. Vaguely reminiscent of You Me At Six, but packing a harder edge, it should fit right in to many current music fan’s collections.
The rest of the EP keeps up that level of quality, and rarely falters. Each song is littered with interesting flourishes and instilled with the kind of energy and talent that’s usually hard to come by.
They’re a band to look out for, on the strength of these few tracks alone. Check them out, you’re unlikely to be disappointed.
