Energetic LP with surprising results

Oh the beauty of making opinions on first glances or what you hear about a band before you actually take the time to listen to them!

This is what happened when I got my copy of “Left Side Of The Brain” my first thoughts where “nice name” “very cool cover” but by being told the lead singer was sting son I have to admit I wasn’t expecting much that would impress me!

Now and course this is no pop at sting he was of course in a successful band that I need not mention, and of course he has had a successful solo career to boot!

The reason for my dishearten feelings is that here another successful singer son or daughter who saw his father play on stage and thought ” I could do that”. it is of course something that with most famous people’s children no matter what profession it may be the child seems to follow in the roll, and it not a situation that always works out peachy!

But of course it would appear that “Joe Sumner” has looked at that rulebook and threw it way away from sight as he and his fellow band mates “Seton Daunt” (guitar) and “Pete Wilhoit” (drums) has conjured up an mostly satisfying LP!

For a band that have not released a full length album in four years it a very decent effort to be perfectly honest, “Death Machine” and “Two sisters” are fine examples of this case in point, both have similar funky guitar lines with purposeful guitar solos in the midst of them!

The first half of the album (about 6 songs) all contain likeable qualities that many people could warm to!

And in Joe they have a lead singer that grabs every song and vocally puts a bit of grit into each song, but also a bit a meaningful soul into them as well!

Of course there are bad points to the album “running the country” has the same vibe as earlier songs but doesn’t live up to the standards the earlier songs set! And “drink” is a poor acoustic offering that really should have been a b-side at best!

But all in all this is a album that should be in ten times more people cd collection/downloaded collection and a defiantly a band that should be headlining there own tours in the future whet ever that situation materialises or not does remain to be seen!
